Letter from donor (Ann Ehringer Peterson) refering to medal 1994-020/001 she and 16 nurses on USHS Consolation received it in 1955. They were ordered to Tourane Bay (now DaNang, Vietnam) to relieve the French. The USHS Concolation was to take the French (patients? she doesn’t say who) back to France, but were ordered back to Korea. So the USHS Haven returned the French to La Haver, France. Both ships crews were awarded the Vietnam Ribbion for “Passage to Freedom” The medal is now the Republic of Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation. Letter typed because original difficult to read (see 1987-042/001Consolation year book).
