Scholarship Opportunities:
The Florida Navy Nurse Corps Association (FNNCA) Scholarship Committee has established a fund to award scholarships to deserving nursing students and/or Registered Nurses to continue their studies for a baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing. The amount of each award will be $1500 and will go directly to the recipient. This year (2020-21) we will award two scholarships in this category. An additional scholarship category for 2020-21 is the Captain Miki Iwata Memorial Scholarship for Advanced Practice Nursing. This $1500 scholarship is designated specifically for an Advance Practice Nursing Student and is in honor of Captain Miki Iwata, one of the first Navy Nurse Corps nurse practitioners. Enclosed is a flyer and additional information along with the application for the scholarship. These may be duplicated or more copies may be obtained from the Scholarship Committee Chairperson. Completed applications must be returned by November 13, 2020. Only completed applications and forms will be considered. Announcement of the selection will be made by December 21, 2020. Navy nurses in the Orlando area began holding regular meetings in November 1986. The chapter was chartered on 30 January, 1991. The Board of Directors includes a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. There are 5 additional Members.
Membership: Open to all Navy Nurses, active and former active duty, retired and reserve, residing in Florida, excluding the panhandle.
Meetings: The chapter holds three luncheon meetings per year: one in the greater Orlando area and one in the Jacksonville area in the Spring and a combined meeting midway between Jacksonville and Orlando in the Fall. The Board of Directors meetings are held separately, twice a year in February and September. The chapter publishes a newsletter, The FNNCA Scuttlebutt, twice yearly.
Chapter Dues: FNNCA dues are $20 per year. May be paid in conjunction with NNCA dues or separately by check.
Chapter Mission/Projects: To provide support of the NNCA and a social forum for information sharing and networking. Projects: Scholarship Fund and participation in Veteran and community events.
