Committees

This committee provides public recognition to those members of the Navy Nurse Corps Association who have made significant or unusual contributions to the Navy, the Navy Nurse Corps, Nursing, or to the Association, and to encourage active participation in the NNCA. Such recognition will usually be given at the NNCA Reunion Meetings.

The committee reviews the nominations and presents the following awards:

This is an internal business committee. It ensures that the Bylaws and Policies are in consensus with the purposes of the Association, fully support its goals and mission, and are in compliance with the Washington State Nonprofit Corporation Act, other laws, as appropriate, and the NNCA Articles of Incorporation.

This is an internal business committee that prepares a budget for the fiscal year and amends this budget as needed. The committee is responsible for an overview of income as well as the disbursement of funds in the general fiscal operation of the organization.

This committee records, preserves, and shares Navy Nurses’ oral histories. It coordinates and manages the recording of oral histories from retired, reserve, active duty, and former Navy Nurses. These audio recordings, CDs, and DVDs reflect Navy Nursing experiences of interest and significance to the Navy Nurse Corps. The committee also evaluates opportunities to collaborate with organizations of similar purpose. They seek opportunities to share oral histories with museums, veteran organizations and others organizations that may wish to post the oral histories or use for presentations, provided that permission has been granted by the veteran who was interviewed.

This committee develops and implements sustainable activities and strategies that spread the NNCA’s message by creating a brand focused on the NNCA vision, mission and goals. Its goal is to promote the organization’s ideals and causes to get the attention of potential members, volunteers, and donors. Increasing the organization’s visibility to the public and potential members is a key purpose of the committee.

This committee solicits, acquires, preserves, and exhibits artifacts related to the history of the Navy Nurse Corps. It coordinates and manages the accession of items of historical interest and significance to the Navy Nurse Corps, as well as managing memorabilia donation requests from NNCA and non-NNCA members. These items when approved for accession by the committee are maintained in a virtual museum by one of our partners History Associates, Inc. in Bethesda, MD.

This committee collates and edits the NNCA News. The NNCA News presents topics of interest or concern to NNCA members, relates anecdotal and historical events pertaining to the Navy Nurse Corps. The NNCA news provides information relative to planned functions that are valuable and/or socially attractive to members, and communicates matters pertinent to NNCA. The newsletter is published 3 times each year (March, July and November).

This is an internal business committee that identifies and nominates qualified candidates for the Board of Directors annual election. The committee prepares the candidates’ slate no later than September 15th each year and supervises the election process.
