“Down Home Southern Hospitality”

With the 2019 Annual NNCA Meeting in our rear-view mirror, the small but mighty Mid-South Chapter members are breathing a huge sigh of relief. It was our honor and pleasure to host this meeting in Arkansas. NNCA members in attendance were from 12 different states (AR, CA, FL, GA, MD, ME, NC, OR, RI, TN, TX, VA). In addition, the Chapter Presidents from FNNCA, MSNNCA, NNCASC, SCNNCA, and WMANNCA were present for the meetings.

The Hospitality Room was a huge hit. Members visited with “ole” friends and made new ones. The bond between Navy nurses remains strong!!! The “Arkansas Travel Gravel,” Mary Pippin’s special recipe for the “older traveler,” was a huge success. In fact, a second batch had to be made onsite to meet the demand for this highly nutritious item. Thanks to all the NNCA members who rolled up their sleeves, donned gloves, and helped make extra Travel Gravel packets.

Some members checked another Presidential Library (Clinton) off their bucket list. Many enjoyed local museums, while others partook of the local dining options unique to the Little Rock area (i.e. fried, whole catfish complete with the head still attached). Several runners maintained their routine workouts with a jog along the Arkansas River trail.

The U.S. Navy Nurse Corps celebrated its 111th birthday during the Saturday luncheon. Per our tradition, Kathleen Wilcox from Fayetteville, AR, was the youngest NNCA member present; and Bobbie Clinton from Nashville, TN, was the oldest member. Both Kathleen and Bobbie are members of the Mid-South Chapter.
