Present Level of Performance-

  • There are currently 234 oral history interviews in the NNCA Oral History Collection, stored in multiple media formats (199 audiocassettes, 11 microcassettes, 118 CDs, and 6 DVDs).
  • One –hundred and ninety-five (195) of the 234 interviews have been transcribed. Thirty-nine (39) interviews (10 audiocassettes, 8 microcassettes, 15 CDs, and 6 DVDs) require transcription.
  • History Associates Incorporated (HAI) has been contracted to help with the management of oral and written histories.
  • Oral and written histories have been relocated to HAI offices in Rockville, Maryland.
  • NNCA oral and written histories are being cataloged by HAI using Past Perfect Software.
  • Guidelines, policies, and procedures have been developed in conjunction with HAI for obtaining, documenting, and donating copies of interviews.
  • NNCA Oral History Committee and Chapter Representatives have been oriented to new guidelines, policies, and procedures developed in conjunction with HAI for obtaining, sharing, or donating copies of interviews.
  • Professional services have been engaged to transcribe the NNCA collection of 39 “un-transcribed” oral histories and interviews now being stored at HAI.
  1. Make oral and written histories available for use by appropriate entities.
  2. Incorporate new policies and procedures into NNCA Procedure Manual and post criteria and procedures for obtaining and documenting oral and written histories on the NNCA website.
  3. Research and identify tools/software programs to facilitate transcription of oral histories in the future.
        • Memorabilia Preservation

Present Level of Performance-

  • In May 2014 approximately 50 cubic feet of NNCA Memorabilia and Oral History archival materials dating from 1908-2011 were moved from Port Orchard, Washington to the History Associates Incorporated (HAI) in Rockville, Maryland.
  • The process of cataloguing, storing and identifying processes for acquisitioning, accessioning and de-accessioning, and disposal of items in the NNCA memorabilia collection were initiated by HAI in conjunction with NNCA Oral History and Memorabilia Goaltenders.
  • NNCA memorabilia collection items are being catalogued by HAI using Past Perfect Software.
  • Criteria for evaluation of appropriateness of items for the NNCA memorabilia collection have been developed by NNCA in conjunction with HAI.
  • Guidelines, policies, procedures and criteria have been developed by NNCA in conjunction with HAI for loan and use of NNCA memorabilia collection items.
  • Two NNCA Board members continue to oversee the transition process with HAI for the accession, collection and disposition of Navy Nurse Corps Memorabilia.
  • NNCA Memorabilia are now available for loan/use by appropriate entities.
  • Memorabilia Committee and Chapter Representatives have been oriented to guidelines, policies, and procedures developed in conjunction with HAI for accessioning and loan of memorabilia.
  • Virtual display of NNCA memorabilia is now available, with search options, on NNCA website.

  2. Incorporate new policies and procedures into NNCA Procedure Manual and post criteria and procedures for obtaining and documenting oral and written histories on the NNCA website.
