President's Letter
As your new President, I am greatly honored to serve NNCA for the upcoming year. Vice President Gloria Caffrey, Secretary Jim Stokes, and Treasurer Kit Tate were voted to remain in their positions for another year. My hearty thanks goes to our departing Board members (Randy Boston, Sue Roper, and Barbara Beeby) for their service and dedication. I am confident the officers and current Board members (Shirley Lewis-Brown, Lissa Barker, Dennis Sullivan, Gerri Mukri and Carol Carney) and Executive Director Carlos Torres will work hard to serve your best interests in leading and managing NNCA. |
I also wish to recognize Sue Roper’s 12 years of talented editorial expertise (co-editor for 2 years and 10 years as editor) and creativity as she leaves the post of Editor of the NNCA News. She built on the strong foundation laid by Scherlie Devine and continued the tradition of the NNCA News as a truly professional publication. Look for Sue’s photos of the 2010 Reunion on flickr.com/photos/nnca!
Our grateful thanks go to outgoing Nominating Committee Co-Chairs Mary Jo Young and Sandy Lindelof. For over a decade they found us well qualified candidates for the Board of Directors - quite an achievement. Bobbie Clinton is our new Co-Chair and will conduct the candidate search; Sally Dambaugh replaces Mary Jo, overseeing ballot counting and tabulating in conjunction with the Palmetto Chapter.
We had productive Board and Annual Membership Meetings. Please review the minutes for changes in membership cards, directory printing, and Bylaw amendment. These actions will save NNCA thousands of dollars each year. We enjoyed taking tours, visiting with friends, and recalling memories during our 4 days of the 2010 Anchors Aweigh on San Diego Bay Reunion. We owe the entire NNCA of Southern California Chapter, and especially Co-Chairs Nancy Owen and Jennifer Town, our tremendous thanks for all their hard work in creating such an enjoyable time for all of us.
We are in an intense membership recruiting and renewal phase - our membership numbers are below 2000. Each new and renewing member is a significant asset to NNCA, for the richness their experience and talent bring to the organization, and quite honestly for the financial support your dues provide. We need YOUR help to contact former and current Navy nurses and urge them to join NNCA.
I’m so pleased to announce that Cindy Coyle will be our new NNCA News Editor. Please send any newsletter input to her at newseditor "at" nnca.org.
